What is GrammarXiv?
- GrammarXiv is a database of linguistic truths.
Truths are diverse, especially linguistic ones, and no one has a complete grasp of them (yet). Truths can also take many different forms, including professional theories, hypotheses, equations, data, figures, experiments, publications, histories, relations, explanations, etc., as well as people's intuitions, conversations, and personal beliefs. GrammarXiv collect them all and share them in the form of connected graphs, inviting users to locate their "truevotes" through the tangled web of linguistic truths.
The database consists of the following 5 major functions:
Combination of these five functions is a unique design specification of GrammarXiv, shared by no other existing services. In particular, GrammarXiv is:
- NOT a mere corpus:
given that it is not just a collection of produced expressions: it not only collects linguistically (im)possible expressions (acceptability judgments) of various natural languages but also linguistic hypotheses and theories and their intermingled relations. - NOT a mere encyclopedia of terms:
it does collect terms, and much more, including graph-based relations as well as users’ votes and lively discussions. - NOT a mere publication database:
entries for GrammarXiv include but by no means limited to publications. - NOT a mere social networking platform:
it systematically collects user action data as instances of relational entries and allows users to search and discuss these user action data as well.
